How would you define your personal style?
My style is a blend of pop art. and the hyperrealism. I really like pop art. But I like to give an hiperrealistic emphasis.
There is inspiration in Andy wharhol ...
Inspiration might have. The technique has nothing to do. Andy Wharhol used the technique of printing, mine is through a much more difficult tecniches, drawing and painting. It is the rebirth of pop art. with hyperrealistic techniques. Working very realistic, handmade and I'm very proud because the outcome is in sight.
The coloros you choose are not casula they are very strong , like an explosion.
It's. For four years I had a subject that was the study of color. I spent my life studying color palettes, and gradients. During that time, I did not understand why the study the color. I concluded that it was the most important tool of my life. I have a huge need for color inside. The way I dress, the decoration of the houses that I do, since I'm connected to interior design today. And for me it is a necessity grid. What is also the result of my work, is color.
And this exhibition?
I think that although some academic work , the nudes. The hyperrealist work is where I actually feel comfortable. What gives me more energy are the results by color.
It is difficult more diifcul the art market towards women?
It's so hard for men, as for women. Previously there were no women artists, but today we are a large majority. It has great advantages to being a woman artist in modern times. There is an attitude of independence. Do not know if I would call it irreverent, I think we are not different from others. But we have a proper attitude and depends on our personal life and time as we manage it. And crossing that availability with your children and family, has some advantages.
what do you think of the art cenary in Portugal?
Is evolutionary. We needed more investment to the level of government. Invest in major exhibitions and museums. Purchase of major artworks.
Don't you think there should be more patronage? Whem we go abroad the museums have great support by patrons and do not see here...
There is very little. And it is a great opportunity. I think there is a lack of knowledge. Most people do not realize enough art to use this tool, and it is very interesting. We have half a dozen people, we have the example of Joe Berardo, which is one of the reasons of me been here, at the invitation of the Savoy group, and also the mayor of Funchal, which has a huge artistic sensibility. But a minority are in fact so few the they stand in this universe. But it was commendable that they were more. I myself am a collector. Not only my work, as the others. I like helping to artistic development. And I think above all, the current overview of the world's largest investment ever, is the art. It is what gives the highest return. Art grows in value over time. A car depreciates. The real estate depends on the square meter. Art is not one thing or another. One can appreciated over time and across the centuries.
What is your next project?
I have several projects. My major challenge is the work of the Museum of Technology, is about ecology. Linked to the concept of House of the Future which will include great art. It will be a project signed by me. Where it will be held with immense art and technology. In the case, becouse is a small space, works will be mine. Are three, four big pieces. It's an investment, once again, is a partnership, but it is a personal investment.
So you left other aspects your career for painting then?
Yes, in the last ten years I have been devoted exclusively to painting and application of my work. Included in public spaces. The hotel gives me a special pleasure, because it is a public space where lot of people spend time. We reached many people and it's a form of taking art to people, since we could not get people to art.
