Jacinto Rodrigues is an artist with a long career in sculpture. His works reflect an imaginary of abstract figures inspired by what surrounds him and recently decided to invest in utilities design inspired by the island.

How this work with wood does arises?
Jacinto Rodrigues: It began many years ago, about twenty years, in this case I accepted an invitation from the Institute of Wine and embroidery of Madera and decided to do some more alternatives pieces. I usually do more abstract sculpture. It has intended a connection to earth so I decided to make a link between artisanal and rustic to contemporary.
So how do you construct the creative process?
JR: I took the oldest objects and turned them into something more modern. It is a very recent project, not for a very long time. I first tried to build these objects from scratch. I create abstract Art and I tried to use my forms in these utilities.
What kind of wood do you use?
JR: I use local woods, in this case, cedar, pine, brown, orange and the heather.

Is there any one more difficult to work or not?
JR: There are more and others less harsh, wood are wood.
You created kitchen utensils but there are tables and chairs.
JR: At the very end they are design pieces. First I have to know where to go, but then I do it right away in the wood. I use old tools and also the latest. The ideas of the scarce craft that still persist and I know have been evolving and applied them to my style. The bowls, for example, have the shape of older samples that were used to knead the bread. The paddles also follow the same reasoning.
