The neruda

They released their first and only album to date in 2009, a work full of sung poems.

It's an album dedicated to poetry, the words spoken to the wind, the emotions at the surface of the skin and the great writer of Latin America and the world, Pablo Neruda, hence the band name and inspiration. The ballads are the strong feature of this band from Lisbon, poems of love in a melancholy tone like the "wine of your body" drip to drip, kiss to kiss, which is the debut song of this work full of romantic sound bites. But, not only man lives from verses and "complaints of what nature does," is another good topics of this original album, is the scent of the earth that sucks and what the innocence brings. "She whispers to me" words sprinkled with salt, filled with sweet memories, a dysfunctional symphony that "give way" to another song scattered with tasty musical allegories and shades that echo again in "Dance, sing and act for me" what makes you shake your legs? This is a record to hear embraced to your more than anything, next to your sweeter side, sitting on the couch, or holding hands at the sunset, no matter where, is above all a great soundtrack for eternal love. I only regret the silence of this band in recent years, so I hope that the end is only the beginning of a new story to tell that they have, how they well say in this album.

Hypochondria

It is the second album from one of the best Portuguese rock bands ever.

I recently read a comment about Kelpht that does justice to the music they make, which reads: who said that listening to good rock had to be in English? It is the purest of truths. These young musicians have a bright future ahead. They are worthy precursors of "Xutos& Pontapes." They are the real dream. They are the new generation of Portuguese rock delivered to very good hands. Hypochondria is the second album of original of the Klepht, a large collection of themes and adjectives are scarce to rate this discography work. The "age of stupidity" is a hymn to the apathetic, the Portuguese, or whoever it is, is a reflection about troubled times in which we live in is a song to shake the indifference, "enough of calm / criticize all / or are we passing by and whoever comes will solve the world? And "although it hurts" listen to this rude awakening, I like this warning to the less attentive and do not dare to say anymore that young people are absent from the media world in which they live in. Do "all over again" if we went wrong, that unlike in the lyrics is not bad at all, is one of the beautiful ballads that adorn this album. "For one night," rips our shame, our senses and that pleases me, because when I hear it I just want to light a cigarette lighter to enlighten the darkness. But "quiet" is a tribute, a thank you to all who listen this Portuguese band that "follow a path without direction," they say. Bu I do not think that, not only Klepht know who they are, also seem to know very well where they are going. The proof? They plan to reach the 10,000 sold copies, so do not simply hack just buy this great discography work which I like so much, well beyond the extent permitted by law. I leave at the end of the text an appeal of this band, listen and ask for more. Lastly but not least, I would like to highlight videos of the songs I talk about before, they are of excellent quality and none of them falls short of what is seen internationally. They are all to be congratulated!

Tasca beat, the portuguese dream

Orchestrada was the best kept secret of Portugal, until very recently.

It is the tavern beat of the deeper country into the global world and I love this irreverent terminology, that sounds good and makes us smile in anticipation as the starching lips continues after hearing the first chords of this first auspicious debut album. A happy coincidence brought this group of people together of different nationalities with a common passion, music and also, without sounding arrogant, Portugal. It is a delight tiled with rubies for my love to pass by, as claims the opening theme, dedicated to all the Portuguese architects, "if this street was mine," transmits this urge of spin happily and ask for more. And they don’t hold back, Marta Miranda and her limited company presents us as a refreshing sound, full of influences from various musical cultures merging in a so call new parochial Portuguese popular music. An epithet full of grace and humor, which is reflected in "kekfoi" dedicated to all the Portuguese, what is happening, where are you hurt? And if there were questions we cannot fail to hear, "I and my country," a song that mixes many flavors, various odors in a flash and irresistible rhythm. As in "anything that moves me" sung at Capella by the velvety bare voice of the charismatic singer of orchestrada. "They grab me" should be the title of this unparalleled work, because that's what they do, they lead us on a mixed musical adventure and before the end "come on" listen this album with tenderness and finish with the "if only you see" which is what I hope you do, watch a concert of this multifaceted and entertaining band.

Cacique'97

It is the first Portuguese afro beat band that released their first album in 2009.

This is a multicultural work which holds the most diverse sounds that mix creating an irresistible pace with African flavor, but that goes far beyond this concept. It is a CD which is based on an instrumental diversity. There is a bit of everything and for everyone. It is a hodgepodge of sources that reflect the very nature of the band, which consists of 10 musicians from different backgrounds who reside in our country. Soon to open is "I want it all," a song with an ironic lyrics, direct, outspoken, with a social message that could not be more current in a country where there's a financial crisis. In the edge of the abyss. The same can be said of "Mr. Diplomat "is a song that drinks its inspiration on rap, the lyrics is an advice, a warning against the suits of the world, which rule over all and do nothing for the collective."Come from Nigeria" is another appeal to a non-indifference, the music is the weapon in this global struggle for a better world. One of the curiosities of "cacique 97" is that the songs are long, due to its inherent instrumentality that is increasingly rare in the music world, "dragon" is an excellent example, inspired by China, has a very urban pace that enhances the theme, yet it is almost impossible to cataloging it, in fact, this musical mix is reflected in the entire record, just listen it carefully. There is a taste of Aruba, Central America, Africa and Portugal. Three continents on one musical work. Incidentally, the name of the album takes us back to the private buses in Mozambique called the chapas and this one was the number 97. Note also that the band led by the charismatic musician Milton Gulli has achieved a remarkable success across borders, which owes much to this debut album that reached the summits of the top music charts of World music.

A taste of sunshine

It is a tribute to Eugenia Melo e Castro to Brazilian music, one more but that is not all.

Eugenia Melo e Castro always had an intermittent career in Portugal. It is a sporadic relationship, almost distant, but when she returns is so familiar that we immediately forget how long it was between the first and last time that we relish with her velvet voice. The intimacy we establish with their sound is always so bare, we know that she lives and breathes, but never bored to ask. And is not that we do not like Geninha (as she is affectionately called) is that we know of her need of wondering and invariably we do not require her permanent presence, inwardly we sense that she is very close by, because when she returns, although discreetly, her coming back is always an event. As someone who is very dear to us, who we have not seen for a long time and seeing her flood us with an immediate nostalgia and we do not want to hear about losing her again to Vera Cruz. "A taste of sunshine" is a tribute to the authors of Minas Gerais. It is a work that in its origin is somewhat conceptual, because it is a very personal approach to the Brazilian world of music that we liked so much. Well, at least I do. It is a repertoire full of cameos, filled with artists who are very dear to Eugenia Melo e Castro and the Portuguese. It is also a celebration of the 30 year anniversary of the career of this Portuguese singer and songwriter. Did I not warn you?  Was it so long ago? That's right, it was. As I said it before we did not felt the signs of time. I will not highlight any song; all of them are so tasty, as the Brazilians say. Although the CD has already been launched in Sao Paulo, she will come to Portugal in June of this year to present this new work, full of poets with a taste of sun. Indulge yourself!

Chronicles of violent tenderness

This is a discographic work of Pedro Barroso that is still as fiercely passionate as a decade ago.

This is a disc that is divided into three chapters and a postscript. The first is dedicated to women with the opening theme entitled "gardens of poets," which goes beyond a poem that talks softly thru the grave voice of Pedro Barroso, is an ode that flourishes the spirit, a tribute to all the Portuguese troubadours , who, like him, are superior and vertical, although the claims the contrary in this simple song. The raging tenderness is a theme that celebrates life, "a little more time was happiness / a little more sky and it was heaven." The title is magnificent for its inherent lyrism accompanied by blissful words that exalt the soul. Maria Mountain follows that trail. It is the story of a recluse dressed in black, velvet-lipped, with her hair in the wind, who lives in Amarante. The second chapter covers the world, and there is nothing more than Lusitanian that singing it, with the theme "I'm Portuguese, I'm different." It's a song that speaks of the people, their idiosyncrasies in a so breathless and winding way that resonates in the heart. It is the life of the emigrant. Their eternal restlessness. Our fate. And the sea ... And facing the waves Pedro Barroso recites "the meaning of things" as we see this country navigate. The third part of this delightful chronicle brings to mind the famous phrase: every human being has a little inner craziness. It comes in handy in his progressive madness, with the theme "Mad templar." It's a balm that will make smile, or maybe cry. Concluding, the P.S, my favorite, "in the name of the happened spell," which was precisely what happened to me when I hear this work of one of the greatest songwriters of the Portuguese language, I was enthralled by the great and not metaphorically, Pedro Barroso, who although a little cast aside from the major concert halls, nobody knows why it will never be forgotten, much less defeated. He is eternal while his music and his words last in me and hopefully you also listen. So I leave a "scent" of this troubadour of words.

Mi ma bô

It was the first album of Sara Tavares to the world. And rightly so it happened.

The first time I heard the crystalline voice of Sara Tavares, she was fifteen years old and participated for the first time in her life in a television musical contest called "shower of stars", which she applied thanks to the complicity of a neighbor in order to surprise her grandmother. Never shall I forget the emotion I felt when I hear her sing a theme of Whitney Houston. I believe that American singer, had it been there she would have congratulated this passionate young woman descendent of Cape Verdean for her magnificent interpretation of one of its most successful themes. By the way, for those who do not know, Sara Tavares won that first edition of the contest and became a very special star in the Portuguese music scene. "Mi ma bô" was her first album. A test to the versatility of her smooth voice full of warmth and her different kinds of shades that you can hear in this wonderful work. It is a melting pot of cultures brought together in one CD. An homage to her origins, of Cape Verde, Portuguese and the influences of American music. The theme "I know" is the stone in the pond of this work. It is my favorite and of course it could just be the Sara Tavares to interpret this exciting song, say what you say, but only she could do pull it of. "mi ma bô" which gives the title to this disc, is so simple that even if we do not realize its significance we soon feel calm and happy. "You are the sun" is another song of this compilation that will be associated with her talent, since she also co-produced this album full of musical pearls.

Drama box

It is a work of Mysia, launched in 2005, inspired by the singer's mother.

It's an album full of "songs" that helped her survive when life dies. That's how Mysia defines this work on the cover of this very unique project, because it cuts through several musical styles, different languages and speaks out poetry, poets. It is homage to the influences of the Southern Hemisphere, which reflect the Iberian origins of the singer. It is a melodic kaleidoscope, with tangos, boleros and fados that fuse well on this record, because they speak out about the same, sorrow, joy, life, death, love and tragic moments of a lifetime. It is a hodgepodge of accents and tones in "fireworks" by Vasco Graca Moura, recited by several European actresses. It's a record that speaks of friendship, of poets and writers who kindly gave their time and most importantly their words ... Jose Saramago with the fado "riddle II " "if death undress me" by Natalie Correia, "scars "by Rose Lobato Faria and" If our world was evening "by Jose Luis Peixoto. It is also a tribute to the musicians from the south, across the Atlantic, the mythical of ever, Manzareno, Expósito and Piazzola. "that moment" and "I miss you" have a unique cadence that was only possible thanks to magnificent interpretation of these artist, though she is not highly valued in our country, is widely recognized and awarded across borders. This album is a compendium of influences that go out to all those who love music and do not want to hear a tight work that is limited to a single genre, formatted and packaged for the masses. This Mysia may not be for everyone, but contains in itself all the south meridian of a very rich music universe, varied and full of warm shades. These are all excellent reasons to review this favorite of mine always marked by the difference.

The originals

A national producer rockstarmagic created a contest that aims to raise awareness about the new musical talent that exist all over the country. At first the idea was small, but grew as days went by and were getting more and more applications. A bet that the organization considers gains due to the quality of the musical groups that worked their music live and a promise to continue this effort for more years to come.

Where came the idea of creating this music festival?
Fernando Pinto: The goal is to find new musical projects and have a more interesting portfolio of artists because the difficulties for the musicians in Portugal is well know, we have good artists, but there are few opportunities to showcase their work. It was an idea that came up in conversation with Nelson Fontes, who is also part of the organization. Initially we thought of a smaller event, but we had so many musical proposals that we had to rethink everything, because it’s not a contest specifically made for bands, but for all types of musical groups.

How do you make the selection of groups? They created several categories and bands, or groups, or solo artist and they are inscribed in the respective areas?
FP: No. We have accepted the nominations, we heard the song and then do a pre-selection with a jury that consists of several musicians. The project has to be interesting, to have something different, not just have the style, a, b or c. It is subjective, each of us has his own taste. Then we arrived at a consensus and of these 10 candidates, we found that six or seven that all together have good condition to continue. We do not distinguish musical styles.

So initially how many applications received?
FP: In the first phase had 104 candidates. Of these we selected only 64 candidates, acted upon because it allowed them to play according to the agenda that we set and the qualifications that were scheduled, until reaching the first three prizes, if they can call it that.

But  you listen to all candidates, or have to act on stage?
FP: We hear all and we were not strict about the recordings, could be unprofessional, they could even sent us amateur videos. We have to use fantasy to imagine that recording as professional. They sent us three original themes to listen and two more in a second phase on stage, a total of five and from that live performance they were evaluated. The last two songs they will present were unknown and so we have a certain surprise. There are twelve days of live concerts. The public also participates in this assessment, in addition to the jury which is made by the organization, a group of musicians and sponsors.

The cherry on my cake

It is the musical debut of Luisa Sobral in the music business. With all merit.

The competitions to find musical talents have a curious route in our country rarely generate idols. Contrary to the advertising. Luisa Sobral is the exception that proves the rule. Her first work is not the result of an armored contract, but the result of her personal creativity, which ultimately reflect her personality. She is one hell of a singer with a very unique vocal tone, which does not need big productions to be heard. Xico is proof of that and one of the best songs on this album that reached gold. If initially it seemed that we were facing a more example of canned music, appearances can be deceiving. It is only the first work of Luisa Sobral, but it promises much. Her musical character is evident from the moment we hear the first theme of this work entitled "the cherry on the cake." Her influences are a jazz and a certain musicality that reminds pop, meets her personal taste. The remaining original songs make up the bouquet of a disc that can be heard on an afternoon of leisure, in a late evening in good company and this record has the power to make us feel good and to remind a time of great voices of the past like Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald. In good time.
