It left the chests of our mothers and returned to our closet.
No one knows for sure what century and in which country this art took its first steps, the fact is that emerged from the skilled hands of our ancestral great-grandparents and after many hours of patience under dim lights, ingenuity and creativity, the crochet arrived to the present day, through the chests where our mothers kept their famous dowry for the wedding and stayed there for a long, long time until ... the economical crisis and the need to have an extra in the end of the month made women rediscover this manual tradition and modernized it even more by applying it in accessories, incorporating it into garments and leather goods. Never crochet is been so fashion as nowadays and this trend has also reached the designers who have bet on silhouettes speckled with daring colors and intricate stitches. The different types of yarns also help in the design of clothes with greater visual impact, particularly in dresses. There are even designers who create collections made only of crochet, a fad that has done very successfully across borders, for example, in Brazil. In Portugal although one cannot say the same, since it is a whole imaginary very old fashioned is still latent in our female mind, I highlight the famous cloths of crocheto strategically placed on the table with a vase on top, or a television. Remember? It was not so long ago. The fact is that this manual art was ostracized and relegated to a purposeful obscurity until someone remembered that it is possible to make beautiful and modern pieces and voilá crochet is back for how long? The fashion next season will tell.
It is another trend this winter full of references luxury.
Minimalism is back. In many respects did not start, because it is a timeless trend. The silhouette is simple. The focus is on fewer numbers of pieces of great quality finish and the type of tissue. The coats are wide sleeves, the cut is fair and adjusted, and the image is classic and very delicate. The softer tones accompany this concept; the caramels come in force, accompanied by the blues, lilacs and green waters. A collection of Pedro Pedro is one of the best examples of this trend very lady like.
It's a trend that never goes out of fashion.
Nothing is more synonymous than the autumn-winter than the knitting. They are warm, versatile, colorful, cute, have all kinds of models that brighten the colder days and eradiate a constant sense of well-being. In the next season 2012/13 one of the most striking trends of the Portguese fashion parades was the "bohemian chic", with coordinated that result from cultural influences, mixed in patterns and colors that transport us to the ethnicities of the steppes, but on a more city and sophisticated look. The craft apparently are knitted with relief effects, reflecting warm and wintry hues, such as opals, mustard, hot pink, tangerine and amethyst. One of the collections that showed this trend was more the designer Susana Bettencourt with her hiper femenine and very elaborate knittings.
It is one of rock bands with greater projection at a national level, which shows its best of in its latest CD.
The music of "sixth sense" has a very unique sound of the eighties, of the great rock bands such as "whitesnake", the "queen" and "Aerosmith" that influenced the members of this Portuguese band. The songs are a reflection of the style, whose epithet is the theme of "you". It is the visiting card of this rock band without any doubt, but it is not the only one. "All night" is also a great song with a rocker twist, in the unmistakable voice of Paulo Martins. "Whatever happens" is one of the many energetic songs if this album full of great classics. The ballads, are one of the strengths of this collection, "as I think of you", the no so-know "rain" and the duet with the singer Rita Guerra, "only you" completes this triumvirate of themes that appeal to hearts of many fans. "After you" is perhaps one of the lesser known songs of the "sixth sense", an ode to a lost love, one more, because love songs are never too many. I end with the "what eyes cannot see" more is the band that decided to ended its professional career, unfortunately, this album is for posterity, a way of homage to the fans by shoeing their musical journey of great quality. Goodbye and good riddance, sixth sense.
It is the second work of Naifa, after the surprise of the underworld.
To say that this is fado is a term too narrow for the type of music that Naifa compose. It is a subgenre within the genre, which blends various musical concepts in a single work. There is not a linear sound, there are various shades imprisoned in each song, is a fusion of identities, this is the best way I've found to define this album. The theme "the truth catches up mistakes" and "señoritas" are some examples of these perplexing songs. Even the lyrics do not follow the announced course, seem lost in a rhythmic frantic pace, echoing punctuated thru the instrumental solos. It's an album of contrasts. There is a bit of everything and almost for everyone, although is not for all types of audiences. The "naifa" are a group directed to a minority. I do not know if that was the purpose, but the fact is that the music they make, an intersection of Portuguese guitars and electronic pop is not appealing to all, or any type of listener. It is addictive for those who like to hear them, thanks to vocalist, Mitó that grabs our senses with her scratched voice, hoarse, full of feeling. Her interpretations are strong, magnetic and that make sense, given the kind of music they make. Honestly is not a subgenre that I enjoy, but I recognize their impetus to be different in the music Portuguese scene of fado, where the "transgression" of the traditional is not seen with kind eyes.
It's an album made of complicity and friends of Sergio Godinho.
Speak about the music of Sergio Godinho is the same as talking about Portugal. He is a poet that writes songs about the everyday life, its experiences, its weaknesses and its oddities. It is also one of the voices April, of the covert wars and the youth who inhale the first breath of freedom, audible in duet with another companion of struggle and friend, José Mário Branco, on "What is this force" and in a more recent arrangement the "ballad of Rita" with David Fonseca. This is also an album of affections, which he defines as something that is "very pleased to do" and not because "I am obliged to thank you because I owe you." Just as well. With this in mind, he invited a series of musicians, singers and instrumentalists, who generously and humbly gave their personal touch to his songs. "Photos of fire" is sung in two voices, the young and old fado, it's the magnificent performances of Carlos do Carmo and Camané and of course, Sergio Godinho. "Let's change the subject" with Jorge Palma is unavoidable, "the many slowly began to realize/ the many slowly was humming, the many slowly were able ... to do a story." And to cheer the more sullen spirits lost in metaphysical contemplations, listen to "Let's dance to the world", with the band cla. Following the path of female voices, remember the "unforgettable" by her very particular voice, Teresa Salgueiro, who sings the theme "can be someone who is not." I conclude with another duo of road friends, "Barnabé", with Vitorino, "who will win will win, even if the hopes are few", why is this Sergio different from the others?
It is a low cost musical event that will take place between 16th, 17th and 18th of September in Braga.
The Independent Music Festival of 2012 is a great counterpoint to the musical events that occur throughout the summer, coupled with a very Portuguese sense of humor! The initials say it all, as have the same words of the International Monetary Fund. It is an irreverent idea that aims to enhance the participation of a younger audience, with less purchasing power and has no access to major urban centers. The location is strategic, the Sá de Miranda school, located in the city center, is close to bus stops, parking areas and lodges. Another of its strong points, in addition to the ticket price per day, two euros, is the concentration of various musical styles and a large multidisciplinary sounds allowing a wide range of choices, which does not imply as the organization said, "a lack of quality, quite the contrary."Thus said, the IMF'12 will have bands and musicians from Lisbon like "B Facade" and "Noiserv", the Portuguese "one man band", from Braga will have the "Smix Smox Smux," form OPorto "The Bison" and "Jump." In addition to the national bands, the festival features international names like the Spanish "The Coras," or at solo, the Canadian "Kathryn Calder" and Luxembourg "Sun Glitters." One of the goals of the IMF is also disseminating independent bands that have no connection to record labels, in all 42 bands will perform throughout the space and will be spread across two stages constructed on the premises. The festival will also have two "after-parties" and a craft fair, this project is being inserted in preparation for Braga, the European youth capital of 2012.
It is one of the trends for the autumn-winter 2013.
It's sexy. It's seductive. It's shameless. It is passion. The vast majority of women do not dare to wear it, especially the Portuguese, with the exception of islanders who like to wear bright colors, but it is clear that nobody is indifferent to a simple little... red dress. You guessed hah? Sure you did! It is the color of the moment and those symbolisms do not end here, did you know that during World War II the most sold lipstick in the U.S. was red? Women fought that using this tone conveyed the idea of health and also attract more gaze from men. It was even used in ancient times to protect children from potential harm. Such beliefs somehow disappeared from our society, but the vital force of this color invaded the catwalks this year in various shades and various types of materials that will not leave anyone indifferent. It is said that red is the new black of this season and it is everywhere. The luxurious clothes with oriental inspiration integrate this theme, as well as more minimalist coordinates inspired in the sixties. They are little notes, nor too much, nor too little, of the color. The combination of black and red is another must of this season and is present in both textiles and accessories. Then the patterns are coordinated according to red, not forgetting dresses in rich fabrics in terms of textures, indeed the collection of Fatima Lopes is one of the perfect examples of the application of this color trend that was cutting across almost all of its coordinates. Do not be afraid, use and misuse red, you will see that it won't hurt a thing and the world will thank you.
These are some of the garments to be avoided at all costs.
Fashion, like everything in life, also makes mistakes. There are garments which should simply be banned from the woman closet and there are many examples out there. Let's address the balloon skirt can anyone in its right mind judge that it looks good on some people, sorry to say it, but no. It is a piece of clothing that transforms anatomically a woman's waist in a St. John's balloon, hence the name and should be avoided at all costs. Another example, coming from Morocco are saruel pants, can even be comfortable, but all that sagging tissue gives the impression of someone who suffers from urinary incontinence and need to hide it and more, makes women fatter. This type of clothe that may have even invaded some catwalks worldwide, but no one sees them outside, or rather on fashion icons. Let's now go back in time to the eighties and to the pads. They may even have risen from the dead, but the truth is only one, it's seem like shoulder poufs. Destroy, in my view, the structure of a coat, our eyes wander to these two things and we end up almost forgetting the rest. Even in the case of Madonna. I like clothes that flow through the natural curves of the female body, even the dresses more structure follow these dynamics, I know that also enhance the unwanted extra fat, but for that there a myriad of solutions, for example, the draped, results and always look great. The Peter Pan collar should be used sparingly; the same can be said of denim miniskirts. They are pieces that look good on younger women and work for them, further their ultra feminine looks, but not to the remaining mortals, it becomes ridiculous. The key is moderation, wear what is appropriate depending on our age and not slipping on let's said the excesses of fashion, just because it's a trend. Learn to know your body, your faults and strengths, there are no perfect silhouettes, well, maybe Gisele Bunche, but they are exceptions and I believe that even she has bad days, like any woman. There are always those days when we simply don't have anything to wear!
It was an idea that came by mere chance, began as a university project that turned into fashion accessories handmade and can be customized. They are pieces of jewelry inspired by the Portuguese traditions that have achieved great success with the female audience globally.
When it begins your project, handmade mimi?
Emiliana Rodrigues: It started with a design for a class at the university I attend the course of art and media and I'm in my last year. The aim was to create three characters of fimo mass. I really enjoyed and my mother gave me the idea of designing a nativity scene for Christmas. I made only three major figures. The friends of my parents liked it and started ordering. It was all much unexpected.
Then the accessories.
ER: Yes one thing led to another and began to make pieces of jewelry. People from the beginning joined the project and gradually became something more serious.
Your pieces are contemporary, but also reflect the traditions.
ER: Yes, it is a theme that I really like. I'll get ideas from the traditions, not only locals but also the rest of Portugal. I have pieces of jewelry inspired by the Barcelo's cock, in filigree and lovers handkerchiefs of Minho. It's a bit of everything for the country.
So create various collections?
ER: I am starting, thus I did not include all types of pieces. It is not organized. It's all done according to my fancy.
Which are the most emblematic pieces of your jewelry, that people like the most?
IN: The bracelets and rings with flowers. All the regional patterns had immense success.
Do you have any idea who the woman who likes your accessories?
MS: It is very variable. From the youngest to the oldest, are Portuguese and foreign. A bit of everything. We currently do not have an online store, because I want to first improve the brand image and then want to send pieces of jewelry for everyone. I have sold to Italy and France.
