It was an idea that came by mere chance, began as a university project that turned into fashion accessories handmade and can be customized. They are pieces of jewelry inspired by the Portuguese traditions that have achieved great success with the female audience globally.
When it begins your project, handmade mimi?
Emiliana Rodrigues: It started with a design for a class at the university I attend the course of art and media and I'm in my last year. The aim was to create three characters of fimo mass. I really enjoyed and my mother gave me the idea of designing a nativity scene for Christmas. I made only three major figures. The friends of my parents liked it and started ordering. It was all much unexpected.
Then the accessories.
ER: Yes one thing led to another and began to make pieces of jewelry. People from the beginning joined the project and gradually became something more serious.
Your pieces are contemporary, but also reflect the traditions.
ER: Yes, it is a theme that I really like. I'll get ideas from the traditions, not only locals but also the rest of Portugal. I have pieces of jewelry inspired by the Barcelo's cock, in filigree and lovers handkerchiefs of Minho. It's a bit of everything for the country.
So create various collections?
ER: I am starting, thus I did not include all types of pieces. It is not organized. It's all done according to my fancy.
Which are the most emblematic pieces of your jewelry, that people like the most?
IN: The bracelets and rings with flowers. All the regional patterns had immense success.
Do you have any idea who the woman who likes your accessories?
MS: It is very variable. From the youngest to the oldest, are Portuguese and foreign. A bit of everything. We currently do not have an online store, because I want to first improve the brand image and then want to send pieces of jewelry for everyone. I have sold to Italy and France.
