Nuno & The End is an eclectic alternative art project by musician Nuno Felipe that floats between electronic and post rock, though, go beyond these influences, is a state of mind translated into complex and multi-lingual sounds that intertwine and are worth the worth discovering on their last album "Light Ahead".
Your musical universe results from a mixture of sounds and languages, that your personal signature in musical terms was something that was built over time, and has always been your need to assert yourself as a musician?
Nuno Filipe: They were both. All results from the path made, the experiences in various countries, the attention on the way of doing it. At the same time, the rule "must be in English, because it sells more", "or must be in Portuguese because it is your country" is me completely indifferent. To be alone is for now a rule. One day I feel like in romanian, one in japanese and the other in portuguese. It's how I feel, but nothing is premeditated.
In building an album the ideas come first and then you record? Or you tape sounds and voices in parallel and then is that you create a thread for the album?
NF: Ideas come before. Just a phrase, a motto, a concept, a state of mind, an accidental headbutt. Rarely a melody. These come soon to follow. After a state of mind is the idea. After the melody, the production of music, in-depth idea in the texts and the ecstasy of creation. The following are the recordings and mixtures thereof. The concept of the album reflect a specific environment? Or is it a reflection of one of the moments of your life?
NF: Each album is undoubtedly the reflection of my life experience. Inspiration is what surrounds me, what makes me feel good, what makes me sick, what disgusts me, what frustrates me, what gives me happiness.
For example, the theme "Bébé" 2nd album "Nowhere" is the birth of the image of my daughter and all the implicit happiness in this event.
The theme "We Came In Peace" 3rd album "Light Ahead" was the government of Pedro Passos Coelho as Prime Minister at the time. It is allusive to the lord in question and its handling of social policy.
The theme "Spider Love" also from the third discographic work whose character is a spider that lives in his den in a forest corner, never left the ring, but dreams discover the world through his small window, it is allusive to the illusion of "A day when you have money, one day when I leave the euro million, one day when you get to retirement, there will do this and that" and people do not realize that they are simply dormant, that life passes them by.
When you write the topics you think about them in a 3D format? That is, since the can you idealize in terms images for future videos?
NF: Yes, the ideas come to me in pictures. The music is very cinematic. However the ideas of videoclips, only later I do really think of them. Currently I idealize clips with Cristina Vieira, the current director of videos of Nuno & The End.
Let's talk about your last album, "light ahead." This work is a new, more mature sound stage after the "seance" and "nowhere?
NF: Absolutely. It's an album of songs. More dark than before. The "Séance" was a good start, but the truth is that the "Nowhere" is that it was designed first but edited as 2nd album. Because ? I do not know well ...
This third is much more faithful to me as I opened the channel completely and let flow against everything and everyone. It is customary to many people advise me to "do so", "follows this style," "is a theme so is to teres success", "sing", "do not sing", "do not do music," "get a job "" this will come to nothing "," is pimba, kizomba, music for movies, jazz, chillout, classical music, rock, alternative. Why wait so long to record a new album?
NF: I do not have a music editor and logistics. The author's edition is rewarding in terms of creation, because no one controls or misrepresents your work, but as editor is a team of people to simultaneously treat the recording, mixes, mastering, design, publishing, promotion, agency, videoclip , business advisory, social networks, etc. A person alone is lost in this sea of "important tasks". If I just do the music part, not to devote myself to the rest, it would inside a drawer. It is certainly the ultimate goal, to devote my self only to music creation. At this point, it would be nice to have a dedicated agencym, not had the opportunity yet.
What "light ahead" adds in terms of your musical evolution?
NF: The aesthetic maturity that has to be developed over the previous albums. The sound remains eclectic, but much assumed. I stopped worrying about the pseudo-music criticism.
There is an emblematic theme on this record?
NF: Yes. The theme "Light Ahead" that gives the name to the album has a very powerful message. But one must "be tuned" to really understand it. The text was written by Moun Pinz and is a survival manual than we judge meant by "human relations".
Do you think that there is room for a musician like you, on the national scene?
NF: There is room for any musician. There is always an audience for any type of music. I'm trying to reach my. It is not music for the masses. But before thinking in public, I have I really like what I do.
