King in the exile remake

Written by  mafalda simões ft nacho correa

"KING IN THE EXILE-REMAKE" is the 2013 re-creation of the play "The King in Exile" of 1991, a solo by Francisco Camacho / EIRA, in the National Theater D.Maria II, in Lisbon.

Based on the figure of D. Manuel II, the last King of Portugal who lived in England in 1910. In the play of Francisco Camacho there is a constant reworking of a grotesque, obscure, sensual universe and often goes that fills our lives. Working on our memory and iconographic figures, in a process of deconstruction and reconstruction, the choreographer exposes a present body that tries to survive itself. Originally created in 1991 for the Klapstuk Dance Festival, the character is the result of the juxtaposition of the choreographer and interpreter himself with Dom Manuel II, the last King of Portugal, exiled in England in 1910. The play lives on a line of the ambiguity of the identities at stake. It results in an obsessive character surrounded by its trivial vices, locked in its existence and lost in the emptiness of its secrets. The character integrates in the action gestures of the symbolic world of masculine daily life, at the same time that sings, speaks of itself, of its situation, of its history. It is a picture of a certain Portugal, sometimes ironic, sometimes controversial, where loneliness is permanent.
