I noticed that one of your lamps was inspired by a skateboard, how do you process your creative ideas?
JM: I haven't got a process, it happens. I'm open to all different areas. I do not get much time to think about the subject, it all starts with an idea, and then all comes out. For example, I drew the anemone, which is a lamp with a network inspired by a plastic work which is a big network in Matosinhos.
From what you explain just recycle many materials, it is always a strong component in your work?
JM: I always recycle materials in my designs, is one of the components of the design. It's funny to find ways so this material does not end. The objective is to find different molds for reuse.
As a young designer, how the domestic market faces professionals like you? There is still some resistance from the industry?
JM: I've been in business about six months and found that they react badly to the design.
But in what sense, do not value domestic designers is that?
JM: No, they don't see it as an added value for the company. Still have a prejudiced look and do not bet in our designs, they do not take us seriously, so much so, that in the time I've been in this business they did not pay me.
So how do you see your future? You have to be independent?
JM: First I have to gain some experience. The idea is to go out, have a career, go back to Portugal after having done this path and create a brand.
In what area?
JM: In furniture.
Because here you have skilled labor?
JM: Yes, the quality of labor, work, ease in obtaining the materials and because it is my country.
