When you speak in support of what you mean ?
ALL : The state itself , DG arts , should look the other way to these phenomena that occur outside of Lisbon , the center , which concentrates several events simultaneously. They should realize the importance that these areas also has to promote Portuguese culture. We feel it through the groups that appear and tell us that they are happy with a space with these characteristics, because often, the CCB has the usual artists and end up having few places to display their work and are happy that have places hosting them. We needed this time of patrons who support us to keep that bar of quality and of course the artists also have to live and earn their cachets . This is the most difficult, the financially viable of a project that has a high weight, our team has 16 people to keep the palace. This time is a very willful and voluntary work, but at some point we have to have other conditions, because people get tired. The programming is biweekly and requires a large delivery .
Now , a glimpse of programing of this year .
ALL : We decided in the first half betting heavily on music. We have fado, Vicente da Câmara, a great lord of fado, we Mazgani, which is a very interesting artist, he is half Iranian, half Portuguese. We'll have swing stations which is a group of vintage dance, a concert of jazz music and also will help to release album of Francisco Valente, who are the " la macchina volante." In the second half we will debut a new show of unaesthetic which is a musical from Edgar Allan Poe, is darker, gothic , back to the storytelling, we have opera that was well received for a symbolic price .
Expectedcpublic to the opera ?
ALL : Yes, we did. The opera is San Carlos and practically there is nothing els , is very expensive and people have the idea that it is inaccessible. Catarina Molder is cooperating with us, she debunks this idea, opera is not just for the elite and we have accomplished in partnership very interesting shows, with tickets at a price I would say popular and moreover as the Palace is not a very large space, the hall noble hall has space for about 100 people, there is always this intimate side, artists are always singing or playing 10 feet from us and it also provides very special nights .
Let's talk about your show Debut, why that name ?
ALL : It's a first in terms of methodology of our own interpreters. None of them had done work with these characteristics on the other hand has to do with the debutante ball where girls are presented to society , parents trying to present their daughters and present them in order to achieve a good marriage, that in the eighteenth century , so I took that concept and somehow I will present them .
It is the woman-object?
ALL : At the start , but then everything said is true, oddly enough are their names, no characters .
The " characters " then appear in the second part , when there is a certain deconstruction of each?
ALL : What are they, when they deconstruct the costumes, are their clothes, every piece has its own story , their name is true, everything here is true, it seems fiction, but it is not. Was that we tried to explore is this frontier that turns out to be a great exhibition .
Also have much interaction with the public you wished to blend the line between the stage and the audience .
ALL : We already did this play in a large auditorium and we all feel that overrode something that has the performance, which is the contact with the public, we feelt that distance. Prefer smaller rooms precisely because it has to do with performance , which is to question, interrogate and engage people in the artistic context itself and that's what we tried with "debut " .
And the veil ?
ALL : It has multiple readings , is metaphorical , is a sensioral process, because when we sell someone the person focuses on other things in the body, physicality and metaphorical also can be understood in many ways. I do not like to close the sense, but to me, has several readings .
That's what you always look for when you write a play for the theater?
ALL : Yes , I do not like to close the narrative.
In your past work pieces has a beginning, middle, but never ends .
ALL : I always try to do that in my work .
Why?
ALL : Because I think the viewer is an active entity, is not passive, why do I have to tell the story of the old wives and close that story? People build their own story and at the end of the night we have many the viewer identify with a moment and phrases that were said, or situations and they take this story home. I think of this feeling of spectators also building the narrative is interesting.
