The International Literary Festival of Querença opens doors and windows to the dialogue between Literature and Illustration, theme of this 3rd edition. Between August 3rd and 5th, the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation fulfills the objectives that were the genesis of its creation, by the hand of Luís Guerreiro, "Engenheiro das Letras" and Patricia de Jesus Palma, historian of the book: to promote unrestricted the taste for reading and writing; strengthening a stimulating literary environment in the region, spreading "glocal" reflections.
Jorge Sampaio, Cécile Bertrand, Rayma Suprani, António Jorge Gonçalves, Eduardo Salavisa and Luís Vicente are some of the many names that make this year's FLIQ and that will mobilize dialogues around Literature and the Arts, translating social-political pressures and freedom of expression.

At the opening, FLIQ proposes Poesia do Mundo, spoken by young foreigners living in Loulé and from countries as diverse as Cape Verde, Dominican Republic, India, Venezuela and Nepal. Under the aegis of multiculturalism, they will read poets of the world.

The Africanist lens of the patron of the Foundation, the anthropologist, ethnographer and pedagogue Manuel Viegas Guerreiro, will continue this global look with the exhibition, in absolute debut, of slides captured in his expeditions in Africa. The session will be commented by the researcher of Prehistory Nuno Ferreira Bicho, director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Archeology and the Evolution of Human Behavior and professor at the University of Algarve since 1994. Complementarily will be made a trip through the caves of Solestreiras, Querença, visited in the century . XIX by a team of British researchers, through the work that has been carried out by the archaeologist Frederico Tátá Regala.

Still on the first day of the edition dedicated to Illustration, it gains a dimension with the mark of the Centenary of Birth of Tóssan, as Antonio Fernando dos Santos, illustrator, painter, decorator and graphic artist was known. The launch of a book, a conference and an exhibition will celebrate the artist with widespread work on national and foreign soil. The panel of speakers is moderated by Dália Paulo, an expert in museology and municipal director of the Loulé City Council.

Writer Nuno Júdice will join the panel Illustration and Visual Arts on Sunday, 5, alongside Mário Avelar and Carlos Martins Jesus, preceded by readings by Luís Vicente, artistic director of ACTA - The Algarve Theater Company. Also on Sunday, cartoonist Rayma Suprani, a Venezuelan exiled in Miami following threats from the Hugo Chávez administration, will focus on drawing and humor as ways to draw attention to freedom of expression in a solo performance. A conference will bring together the Belgian cartoonist Cécile Bertrand and the Portuguese Cristina Sampaio in illustration and Eduardo Salavisa, designer of everyday life.

Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins, CEO of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and a great interested in BD, will close FLIQ'18.
In all, the Querença International Literary Festival will host more than 40 invited participants over three days. They are writers, poets, essayists, researchers, teachers, screenwriters, illustrators, designers, performers, directors, actors, composers, musicians, songwriters of various nationalities who will bring "their world" to the village of Querença.

The FLIQ Book Fair, Africa and Querença slide show: Cultural Heritage, exhibitions, dialogues and poetry readings, illustration workshops, drawing and outdoor animation, and much more will be revealed by the program prepared for the first weekend of August.
