The prophets

Written by

It is a work based on a historical event that took place at Porto Santo, written by Alice Vieira.

This work was inspired by an event that changed the course of life of the people who settled at Porto Santo and the way they are seen by the other islanders. Sounds confusing, but I will explain for those who do not know, Porto Santo is part of an archipelago that includes the island of Madera, the Desert and the Wilds. The last two sets of territory I mentioned are uninhabitable due to its geological and morphological characteristics, and Madera been more notorious somehow the local people always looked at the Porto-Santo inhabitants with certain superiority and some disdain, which generated over the centuries a series of unsympathetic anecdotes, tales and myths. One of these stories and perhaps the most importantly, described by Gaspar Fructuoso, was recreated by writer Alice Vieira that over a year, analyzed documents, wrote and lived in the first island discovered by Portuguese sailors and that spawned a nickname or alias considered derogatory by the natives of these island that remains to this day, the prophets, so why the islanders of Madera still use this term to irritate the people of Porto Santo? Well, this is an excellent reason to read this simple book, which recreates a past that they tried to bury at all costs in the golden sands, but still transpired over time in a tone of almost legend. Happy reading!
