Then the EP eventually help you?
DP: The EP was a necessity. I already had songs recorded and needed to promote myself, be more able to reach the sites and have agency as a musician. I did an impression of 300 units that sold relatively quickly, which was a good sign. Had some outlets, then there were the concerts and it was motivating to see that the work was going to have some acceptance if I could record it. For this I had to go to Norway, where I was invited to edit an album.
Do you think that new technologies and the Internet have facilitated your music career in terms of audience reach and even the record companies, or not?
DP: It changed a lot for all areas, from music, to publishing and to literature, even at the level of the graphic arts. It becomes a very good showcase to display your work. Moreover, the industry is retracted too because the labels cease to existed, before there scouts who listen bands or musicians. You now have to reach them with the final product. The recording must have quality and from there they take a decision, if it is that segment they want to bet or not. The investment is for those who produce, artists in general ,is a major commitment. Nowadays one can make music at home, is no longer necessary to rent a professional studio, but there is a financial commitment, there must come from someone who bets on you.
The fact that you sing in English also facilitates this process, since your editor is Norwegian.
DP: Obviously the language is also important. It is a happy coincidence, but it is also a market that was best suited for my type of sound. In Portugal my music sounds original, maybe because there is less of it, the music here doubles up for other aspects. In Norway there is a market for this type of radio pop, folk-influenced, if not sung in English would not have been such a possibility. Most European countries have national artists who sing in English, some more successfully than others. Incidentally, everything I do in music does not follow a defined strategy in terms of promotion and I'm a lot to lose because of it, people tell me. I feel good in how I am driving my life, doing what I do. I am not subject to any pressure.
Are you preparing a new album?
DP: Yes I have already written an album. I'm back at the point of having to decide whether or not I commit, if I venture out again and I invest money in an album, which obviously has no monetary return. You must have a passion. I'm equating this decision.
Already has a title?
DP: No, I have 10-12 songs. The songs have a lower personal strand, I'm trying to write with a certain detachment. I like to tell stories. The more we traveled and met people, more absorb these worlds and personalities. It's a challenge that I have placed, try to tell stories. I'm pleased. I do not know if that is going to be a recording.
Continues to sing in English?
DP: There is a theme that comes back "movies at midnight" has a verse in Portuguese that I am considering to rewrite.
