The bad guy

Written by

Were formed in November 2002 and has never stopped since. They are a rock band that bet on a different sound that has evolved over its 10 years of existence. Now , are toasting fans with a new musical work entitled "a ceiling like us", but want more .

Define the sound of the " bad man " , although you consider yourselfs an alternative band.
Claudio Alves: We make music above all taking into account what are our influences and what we heard throughout our lives. While band, which is ten years old , our sound has undergone some changes over time and that are defined in the evolution that happened while growing as people who are fans of music and different things that learn to listen over the years . What then is our sound ? It is characterized mainly by the instruments we chose the bass, the drums and the fact that we only have a guitar has influence on the songs, individuallizes it. I think our sound is a bit raw, what concern ourselves above all is to make something true, show our expertise and not to demonstrate a great post production , although I find it difficult for those who make a real living thing to define what is their sound, the best way to show it is asking people to do a search , to listen, because that is the best way to know us.

But would you say is a rock band?
CA : Now in the end we finally say we're rock . Nowadays the lexical field of music is so huge that I cannot understand, or know then all, I define the band as rock , is what we played, we learned from an early age .

Let's talk about the first album from the "inside out ", of 2007 , claim that this record work was your birth and that came after several years on tour, the songs were chosen depending on the taste of the public, or the alignment of the themes was just your responsibility ?
CA : I think it was a little of both hypotheses. Why? Over time we were playing the songs that have been growing with the interaction of people as we got together, what the public was saying and what we felt was the live music, but were thought only after the alignmen , we decided together what we thought it would sound good and better build a speech and not just a collection of songs scattered without content.

You wrote most of the lyrics and I know they are very personal, what inspires you to write songs ?
AC : I've been told several times that are very personal lyrics, the fact is that we all have different life experiences, mine has nothing special , it's super common , but the truth is that we have to think of something to help write songs and build them. I base myself in the moment, above all on things that happen around us, events that I want to talk . Some ideas to build themes appear without realizing they arise, for example , at a bus stop by the simple fact of being alone made me want to write a lyric, which is part of the last album and maybe later will be understood differently by people who are listening , they think I'm saying something different , however , was an idea that will not be understood by all the same way, but words have that .

And when people approach you about the songs and ultimately express something that has nothing to do with what you've written , you like this multiplicity of ideas ?
CA : Actually yes, to feel that our songs and our lyrics above all might lead people to think , what is it ? It transports them to different situations and in that sense people must have the freedom to build the realities as they see them. Any of us when reading a text will interpret it differently, so it is why there are different points of view and the music has this peculiarity to open a field of such great opportunities to those who are listening that allows them to have different pleasures. It is true that our lyrics are more abstract , is my way of writing , some may like more, some less , but I think it's an interesting experience to try to understand what I meant and experience that lyrics attached to that song in different environments and I think that makes sense .

Tell me about the new album, with the experience not only on stage , but also because you have already edited a record, what this new work brings different from the previous ?
CA : This last album is private.

In what sense ?
CA : These songs have been growing as the we played , and beforethe album we been play in it live on tour we have done after the launch of the previous record, almost like an invitation someone asked us if we wanted not pick these songs and make a album with them and then begin work on a third album from scratch, which would be a new experience. We accepted the challenge and built this work with the songs that we thought were interesting and if you listen carefully it is calmer, more focused on the environment and everything that had to do with growing live.

How this new work titled ?
CA : "a ceiling like us," I explain the title , we have built a rehearsal room, where we also saved some friends gifts, things we offered each other, pictures of our tour and some of the themes were recorded in this space, under this roof, we thought it made sense for the second album . It was a work released in 2013 .

What was the feedback ?
CA : Unlike the previous album , this work has not been released through a recording company, currently we have a great facility to do this work personally, we wanted to have more " hand " at all and in fact it was a fantastic experience because we could bring together all those friends that we gained throughout this journey that is music , are musicians who wanted to participate in this construction even as artists on the cover and all responded well to this album. At the moment we stopped , since my brother was a father , he is the bassist , and asked us for a time to organize. We are already preparing some surprises for live concerts , actually one of the few places in Portugal where we never play was Madeira , we wait for a call sometime.

It's an EP ?
CA : Not really define our work, is about 35 minutes was the ideal, the ideal music , we did not want more, not less also, give the opportunity to hear it for free, people can do their download and then give an opinion .

The " bad man " has a course of 10 years, looking back what you think about all this?
CA : These 10 years have passed running basically almost I feel it has been a fantastic experience that almost dissolves in our lives, is part of it, the songs , the concerts and we even played on stages that never dreamed off. We make music for love, play with the figures that we played and go through the whole of Portugal and especially we can express the art form we choose, make people go hear us and feel the gratitude for what we do that makes us obviously happy.

And Portugal likes its musicians ?
CA : We are Portugal and musicians too. I do not like to be fatalistic and say that the country is not good for artists, we have this culture and we have to live with it , the musicians have to do what they like and in my opinion when one does what it likes can't complain. We are happy, we could have more ? Maybe.

When you want to release the third album?
CA : We are not certain on dates . I can say that will come out next year and maybe I'll crash the prediction ( laughs ) .
