Senza presents mixture

SENZA, a group of artists composed by Catarina Duarte and Nuno Caldeira of lusophony-fusion music, presents their new album, "Antes da Monção" on May 4th. "Mistura" is the first song to be unveiled from this new album by group that comes to stores next week.

In order to perceive the sonority of SENZA we must return to its origins. The group is on a 3-month trip to Asia to countries such as China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand. It is the spirit of adventure and discovery that guides the sound of SENZA, because it is also from these experiences that later find the Portuguese inherent in this project of fusion-lusófona.

What is the lusophony-fusion of SENZA? In the sonority of the songs it is possible to recognize the encounter of musical styles and sounds of the different countries of Portuguese Language. The presence of musical influences from Portugal, Brazil, Cabo Verde and other countries of Portuguese Official Language makes SENZA a unifying product of Lusophony.

"Before Monsoon" is the second album of the group, inspired by a trip to India, and promises to inspire the audience with new stories portrayed in their songs. It is another connection between the lusophone world and another culture so disparate and exotic.

The album is released on May 4th, next Friday and has as guests: Júlio Pereira, Rão Kyao and João Frade. "Before Monção" is released while the group is on a tour in Africa to promote their music and, by extension, Portuguese music in countries such as Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

"Mistura" is the single that accompanies the release of the new album of SENZA and counts with the collaboration of Júlio Pereira. The tape was made by CASOTA Collective.

3 May | 9:30 p.m.

Auditorium of the Musical Group of Miragaia

Starting from the relationship of men to gods, gods who watch from the height of Olympus, from the height of their immortal condition, the tragedies of mortals, we concentrate on the idea of seeing and "seeing." Just as Achilles desires eternity, so the caveman wished to be observed as an eternal image: his hand in the caves of Chauvet is the mark of his perception that we are all ephemeral, it is the mark that effectuates the spectator of himself in the world.
Ajax recognizes Poseidon by the feet; today, it is difficult to see the gods. Perhaps poetry brings a sudden and concrete encounter of evidence, of an epiphany: milk. The divine. Milk. The questions of a dysfunctional radio become images projected from a "World-Poem", in a single take of cinema composed by detours of films. But in the theater everything is exposed: action and passion become less discernible and you no longer know who sees and who is seen, who paints and who is painted.

Celebrations of the world dance day

On the weekend of April 28th and 29th, the Municipal Theater Baltazar Dias will celebrate with dance shows, workshop, performance, master classes and an exhibition, World Dance Day, celebrated worldwide on 29th April.

World Dance Day was established in 1982 by the International Dance Council (IADC), an organization created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This date was chosen to recall the birth of the French choreographer Jean-Georges Noverre, who was born on April 29, 1727 and is considered one of the pioneers of modern dance.
The celebrations begin on April 28th at 10:00 a.m. with the workshop "Days of Me", at 6:00 pm in front of the Theater there will be a performance of the group "The Green Man" at 9:00 pm the day ends with the concert "Away "By Bruno de Azevedo. On April 29th at 10:00 am, in the Baltazar Dias activity room the master classes will begin, first with "Corpo Dinâmico", directed by Peter Michael Dietz, followed by 11.15 "Vertical" with Sophia Neuparth and finally at 12.30 will be the turn of "Escrita-Baile", by the guide Margarida Agostinho. Between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm at Foyer, the "Play Bleu" exhibition will also be on display and to end the celebrations, at 9:00 p.m., Baltazar Dias will perform the "Breath" show.

Workshop "Days of Me" - April 28th at 10:00 a.m.

“Dias de Mim” is a session of movements, exploration and much play for parents and children. They focus on establishing relationships, monitoring motor development and creating a confident autonomy. At its base is not only physical and sound exploration, but also that of plastic materials. We work the silence, sounds, rhythms, synchrony and the ability to be alone being autonomous, various qualities of movement and rest, from the touch. Parents are actively involved in the sessions. Entry to the workshop costs € 5.

The Green Man - Performance - April 28th at 6:00 p.m. (Arriaga Avenue, in front of the Theater)

The Green Man challenges the audience through a character who so quickly confuses himself with the space itself, as it stands out from the same, provoking sensations with different temperatures.
Performance is not fixed in one place, but it is in transit, in circulation and, in this sense, this Being appears and disappears, as someone on a permanent journey, constantly wandering, so fast is apparently fixed, shaped in a garden bench, as at a fountain, in the churchyard, or inside a store. In a constant listening, The Green Man accompanies and is accompanied by who passes, integrating naturally what happens. This work tries to think of a certain performative state that makes the performer in permanent event. Everything is potentialized. The smallest gesture, the most banal action 'transformed by the presence of the performer.
The Green Man seemingly only in space, has the complicit look of a photographer, who captures every moment and provides an exposure of the performance accompaniment. The creation and interpretation will be in charge of Peter Michael Dietz and with photograph of Filipe Lopes - Play Bleu.

"Away" Concert by Bruno de Azevedo - April 28th at 9:00 p.m.
Away is a fusion experience of the course of Bruno de Azevedo (master in audio-production \ compositor \ musician) over the years. It is an unusual path that has been shaped by each specificity, aligned with the musical qualities that have been insisting on appearing. Away is an underground project that is not bound to a musical style, but integrates several sub-genres, from industrial-electronic to cinematic, from symphonic metal to punk, from progressive rock to classic.
This multimedia concert integrates the image composed by Play Bleu (designer, photographer, videographer) and proposes that the music and the live presence of Bruno de Azevedo in performance with guitar and keyboards while processing the digital sonorities that are making present, can cross the bodies without suggesting a closed form of communication, and can be experienced in a conventional room of spectacles or in an alternative space where the public can choose to stand, dancing. Tickets for this show cost € 6.

Masterclass "Dynamic Body" - April 29th at 10:00 a.m.

These classes are dance sessions that are dedicated to experiencing how to articulate and recycle energy and strength, to open connections in the sense of experiencing body languages, of risking and savoring dance. The exercise of another dimension to meet the confidence in the incredible creativity of "letting go" and change the obvious. The Masterclass will be led by Peter Michael Dietz, creator researcher, dancer, choreographer and teacher. Registration is free and must be made to the e-mail: teatro.municipal@cm-funchal.pt.

Masterclass "Vertical" - Day 29th of April to 11h15

This work by Sofia Neuparth, researcher, creator and teacher in the studies of the Body and Movement since the beginning of the 80s, crosses stories of movement in our bodies that make gestures. Body Smoke Travels. Listening to specific lines, we dance chords, chord combinations and even symphonies. The vertical is a mystery!
Only in disequilibrium is it possible to conceive of human engineering! The stability of our bodies is the dance itself, from the micro adjustments we practice standing in quietness, to the balance-pressures-springs that make actions such as walking, running, whirling. Free admission upon registration for the e-mail: teatro.municipal@cm-funchal.pt

Masterclass "Escrita-Baile" - 29th of April at 12:30 p.m.

Margarida Agostinho has come in recent years to interrogate writing as a physicality. The pressure of the pen on paper as we write, the way we get inwardly to put the writing in the rhythm of our strides, the way the consideration of another body near us is able to change the coloration of what mobilizes us to write. In short, writing as access to the questions and answers that we constantly make and find in the world. Writing-movement that also finds in the occasion of a dance, event where we meet to dance and once again we have the challenge of listening to the encounter between the constant coming of the world and the constant budding of ourselves. Free registration for the e-mail: teatro.municipal@cm-funchal.pt.teatro.municipal@cm-funchal.pt.

The Green Man's "Play Bleu" Exhibition - April 29th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Play Bleu's photographic record shows the street performance of The Green Man. Play Bleu is Filipe Lopes, designer, photographer and video-maker. He has been collaborating with some choreographers like Maria Inés Villasni, Valentina Parravicini and in this specific case with Peter Michael Dietz.

"Blow" Show - April 29th at 9:00 p.m.

Blow is a study of the birth of the gesture that brings to the encounter the joy of being a movement! It is not body alone.
According to Sofia Neuparth, "Sopro is the pleasure to stretch an arm, to roll, to look at the sky, to touch the air, to feel the earth to kiss the feet ... to dance. A few years ago I was discovering that the movement can be made gesture and that the dance could be the poetry of the gesture. Every form that is forming, dance dancing dance ... so can ... and no one knows what a body can! Be body water, bird, light, cloud, flower, herb, sound, insect, giraffe, fish. The sadness of humans (many of them supposedly dedicated to "dance") when they express the inability to "create" a dancing moment ... not that in Sofiez the dance becomes beautiful and bright at all times but the joy, the love to be able to dance, the thanks of being able to dance is an immense force!
I followed along the path of existence complicated lives in which the movement could not even appear, in which the physical body was caged in a cruel immobility. Well in my heart I followed the last years of whom I love very much, someone who as a child was wild and adventurous and daring, someone who has closed in a shell of no movement until any gesture has become impossible ... and us humans here to waste the life, to invent complications that justify our failure to turn, scream, jump, exist!
“Sopro” is a cry, a whisper, a song, a kiss, a breath of love to exist ... it is not a good dance or an ugly dance or ... it is dance, with the company of who vibrates side by side, Margarida in the atmosphere and Bruno in music, and you know why I dance? Because I can! And may the world dance! May the dance dance! May the body be able to! " Tickets for this show cost € 6.

Spirit opposite of darkness

It is the new musical vision of Toli César Machado, composer of GNR (New Rock Group) about 35 years ago, that now is solo debut, as composer of all the songs.

A solo, but little, because "Spirit" is more a collective and therefore, for the lyric of the songs the composer invited José Luís Peixoto, Tiago Torres da Silva, Mário João Alves, Adolfo Luxúria Canibal and Jónatas Pires in a game of creative seduction , where in some subjects the composer was inspired by the lyric, and in others the writer was inspired by music, in a surprising result;

Guests from left to right, Adolfo Canibal (photo Hugo Delgado, Dom La Nena (photo Jeremiah), Marcela Freitas (photo Hugo Mesquita), Ricardo Ribeiro (photo Rui Valente Perfeito), Selma Uamusse (photo Gonçalo F. Santos).

To give voice to eight of the ten themes, Toli César Machado invited Ricardo Ribeiro, Adolfo Luxúria Canibal, Selma Uamusse, Dom La Nena and Marcela Freitas. With a clear intuition on the part of the author that these would be the right singers for each of the songs, these with their magnificent interpretations eventually raised them to the sublime.

No less important was the collaboration of Rui Maia (X-Wife and Mirror People), invited to produce the album, in which he plunged deeply and with his musical aesthetic marked a decisive contribution to the final result.
"Espírito" is Portuguese music with inspiration in interculturality, a global project that intends to express the spirit lusófono in constant mutation.
It is Portuguese music. From Portugal to the World!

The album it is on spotify and itunes for download

A manual on work and happiness

The play debuts on April 13th and 14th, at 9:30 p.m., at the Cinema-Teatro Joaquim D'Almeida, in Montijo.

After an auspicious world premiere on March 16th at the Teatro Apolo in Patras, Greece, it is Montijo's turn to host the national premiere of the show "A Manual on Work and Happiness".
The artistic residency that was its origin lies in the last phase of a long project, also entitled "A Manual on Work and Happiness", which started in late 2016 and which brings together Portuguese, Italian and Greek institutional partners, in addition to a Spanish playwright, Pablo Gisbert and a Portuguese theater company, the flying suitcase.
With the support of the European Creative Europe Program, the "A Manual on Work and Happiness" project has already organized an International Seminar on Work and Happiness, hosted a residence for theatrical writing, where the text of the show we have now presented has been created, and promoted four trainings for cultural operators in three countries under a new Southern Coalition network.
The professional training of cultural agents and the development of audiences are the pillars of all these activities. And these pillars become especially relevant now that we have reached the stage of the artistic residences that will give rise to four different shows with different casts, to be presented in four cities, Patras in Greece, Montijo and Alcobaça in Portugal and Pergine in Italy.
It's a huge challenge to involve people with no experience in performing arts; convince them to come on this journey with us, generously sharing their time to reflect together on the future of work, on the frontiers of happiness and to create a spectacle that we believe is as captivating as it is provocative.

A group of people, following an instruction manual, makes a show. Methodically, they set up scenery with landscapes from different parts of the world. Work. They collaborate and help each other to fulfill their tasks. Make a show, however fun it is, it takes work. It is laborious. To entertain themselves and the public, these working people tell stories. And they speculate about what future work may be: who will do it, how it will do it, for whom ... In the intervals, they join for a joint meal at the table.
A fellowship. There is a man who appears as coming from the landscapes, who addresses the group, and talks about life and the possibility of being happy. Everyone listens to him and then goes back to work.
